Bermuda faces a special challenge: King Edward VII Memorial Hospital is the country’s only emergency department, and there are no other local facilities where patients can be sent instead. For admitted patients, time in the Emergency Department has two parts: the time it takes to reach a decision to admit, and the time spent boarding until an inpatient bed becomes available.
